10th jul - gencon oz 2008

took last weekend off, traveled up to brisbane for gencon oz, a 4 day gaming convention. its the 1st of its kind in australia, if i'm not mistaken. sadly to say, upon arrival, it didnt quite match up my expectations. i was kinda hoping that it would be similar to its american counterpart, but it was waaaay smaller and the content was lacking. (3 days of boardgaming is somewhat fun, except it cost me 66aus for admission and i no longer buy boardgames anymore). random cosplay is fun to watch too, i guess.

still, it gave me 4 days away from home, sort out my thoughts, change of environment and re-plan some stuff. (and catch up with some old friends)

brother jus arrived here today, prob will be kept busy for the next few days as i show him around. dinner time will be a nightmare, i'll be struggling to cook up some proper meals for the 2 of us. ><"

ever since bryan sent me the youtube link to randy pausch's 'the last lecture', i've viewed it a number of times, both the condensed 'oprah' version and the original 1+ long lecture. its thought invoking and touching with plenty of humor to boot. for some reason, despite watching it so many times, my eyes still fill with tears every time he gets to the last slide. i highly recommend catching it, if you havent already seen it before.
